Young Artist Solo Competition
The first BCO Young Artist Solo Competition was held on February 9, 2008. The BCO committee would like to congratulate all the students who entered this year's competition. All demonstrated a high level of preparation and performance, and the committee greatly enjoyed listening to everyone perform. We would also like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the teachers who helped prepare the students, the accompanists, and the parents who provided their support.
The winners of this year's competition are Anna Landell & Sally Bruce, for their performance of the Vivaldi A minor op. 3 no. 8 concerto. They will be featured on our Sat. June 21, 2008 performance.

Sally Bruce, violin
Sally Bruce began playing the violin at age 3, inspired by the musicality of her older siblings. Now, 13 years later, she has grown to love the violin passionately. She studied with Hillary Erston, Elizabeth Sutton and Pam Reit, and now is a student of Ira Morris. She has spent her past two summers at Kinhaven Music School in Weston, Vermont, where she will be returning for the upcoming summer. She has been a member of the Vermont Youth Orchestras since she was 6 years old, This year she is playing with the Montreal Youth Symphony Orchestra. She has been a member of the Vermont Suzuki Violins Chamber Music Program, coached by Ira Morris, for 4 years. She is a sophomore at Champlain Valley Union High School, and her plans after graduation include attending music school and studying for a degree in Music Performance. As the youngest of five musical children, Anna Landell had already experienced singing a capella with her family in public before she started taking violin lessons from Pam Reit at the age of six. After studying the Suzuki method with Pam for four years, and her sister Abigail Foster for one, she moved to her current teacher, Ira Morris, with whom she has studied for the past four years. She participated in the VYOA program for two years, and for the past two years has been a member of l’Orchestre Symphonique des Jeunes de Montreal. More than solo or orchestral music, Anna loves performing in chamber ensembles, and has been coached by Ira Morris for four years. She hopes to continue her chamber studies regardless of whether or not she pursues a degree in music. Torn between music and math, Anna has yet to decide if she will follow her head or her heart. Anna is a home-schooling sophomore, and lives in Richmond, Vermont.
