Burlington Attractions
The university campus is a 10-minute walk from
downtown Burlington. Burlington and the Lake Champlain Region offer the
Green Mountain State’s largest and most varied assortment of
attractions. In the heart of downtown is the historic Church Street
Marketplace, eight pedestrian-only cobblestoned blocks filled with
shops, boutiques, cafes, restaurants, and historic architecture. In
April 1997, Burlington received the "Great American Main Street Award"
from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The award honors
efforts to revitalize downtowns. Burlington has also been ranked as one
of the "hippest arts towns in America" by John Villani in his book The
100 Best Small Art Towns, 1997.
