Meeting Organization

From Vermont Area Group of Unix Enthusiasts

Contents

Do I need permission to organize the meeting?

No! This group is self organizing. If you don't sense that something is already happening, then you must speak up and get the ball rolling. Any time is a good time, sooner is better than later. Meetings are typically organized:

       * on the mailing list (perhaps the best way),
       * on IRC,
       * at the end of the previous meeting,
       * at the bar, or
       * with a shell script??? (Paul Flint's new AI research project!)

Once a proposal is in the works, everything gets finalized on the mailing list. On this page "you" refers to the person or group organizing the next meeting. Once the proposal is finalized please make sure that there is a person in charge of the publicity.

Flint's AI research project is available. Flint has a lot of trouble with markup languages, so please refer to BSE I welcome contributions.

Organization Checklist

You should post the proposed meeting details (at least the date) to the mailing list where everything is finalized. These are also the elements of a would-be press release (template?). Here are the issues:

When

In 2006-10, we decided to move the meeting target date to the third Tuesday of the month. The rationale for this change is that the traditional third Thursday meeting gets only one day of exposure in 7 Days. The traditional time is 7:00pm.

Where

The traditional place is Waterman 113-T, University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont. Meeting there requires someone from UVM to reserve the lab (details?). We also meet at other venues around Burlington, and occasionally Montpelier or elsewhere in Vermont.

Topic

Usually we organize some talk or group discussion for the meeting.

Refreshments

Occasionally someone donates some kind of refreshments. If this situation pops up, make a note for the publicity. Also, we sometimes adjourn to the bar afterward for drinks.

Publicity Checklist

Please help fill out details for the publicity check list!
