Hi....I'm mostly lurking here, but I did take a look at the letter, and have two suggestions:

  1. It needs to be about half its current length
  2. You might want to submit it to the Free Press as a "My Turn" (650

  1. I agree that the letter got a little long. (I am always tempted to throw in more arguments than I should.) What would you propose to cut? The part that seems most like it could be slimmed down is the explanation of free vs. proprietary software, but this is also kind of a critical point in my mind, especially when addressing people who may not even be aware that there are alternatives to proprietary software.
  2. I am also in favor of submitting this letter, or a modified version addressed to community members, to local newspapers. I think we should also leave a copy posted online.
